Please
note that handmade jewellery will always be more fragile
than industrially made or mass produced items, therefore,
the jewellery needs to be handled with care and consideration.
Lampwork beads are handmade glass beads and can
still be broken or chipped.
Any silver or silver plated items can be kept sparkling
by polishing regularly with a silver polishing cloth.
Pearls can become dull and damaged by everyday wear.
Perfume, hairspray etc can damage pearls, so always
spray perfume and hairspray before putting on your piece
of jewellery and to take care of them when not in use,
keep them in a box so that they cannot get damaged.
Tarnishing
Sterling silver is a precious metal that is prone to
tarnishing. Several ways in which silver may eventually
lose its highly polished sheen are:
- being in contact with perfume, soap or hairspray
- being exposed to salt water or chlorine in swimming
pools
- being in contact with perspiration
- leaving silver unprotected in air may also cause the
silver to lose its high shine more quickly.
